Add ReviewI have a complaint in the finishing of these shoehorns. Nonetheless these are very well made. The individual components: antler handle, horn, & pins attaching them are well chosen and formed.
The fit and finish are not up to snuff. The curved ox horn is inserted into a straight channel carved into the antler, affixed with glue, and subsequently pinned in place with two metal (brass?) studs. On my unit there was some excess glue at the interface. However, the larger issue is the gap between the handle and horn. Edge on, I can see straight through.
Ideally, the two pieces would be perfectly married. I'm sympathetic to the difficult in joining an organically curved horn into a machined channel. That said, a filler---possibly one incorporating pulverized horn from other aspects of the manufacture---followed by a polishing step after the fitting would elevate this product from a slight disappointment to the heights it nearly achieves.
A Beautiful And practical Iren. Lays in the hand nicely and the feeling is so smooth. I look forward to putting on my shoes every day , due to this unique item. The craftsmanship is just superb !
